Sixth Mode Audio Clip Player

The Sixth Mode Audio Clip Player is available to websites wishing to post podcasts that will provide an optimal experience for listeners, whether they are sighted, low vision or use a screen reader. The Clip Player is an accessible MP3 player that also provides tools for setting up a table of clips that directs a listener to specified segments within an mp3 file. There are example podcasts using the Sixth Mode Audio Clip Player with a table of clips at the end of this page, as well as on the Sixth Mode podcast page.

The Sixth Mode Audio Clip Player is written in Flash but controlable via javascript. A standardized format, called a clipper page, is used so that users can expect a consistent layout. A Clipper page displays a visual controller followed by two sections of links with the headers “Audio Controls” and “Table of Clips.”

The Clip Player's visual controller has large, high contrast controls, that include play, pause, stop, back 5 seconds, forward 5 seconds, a slider and a time readout. Similar functions are repeated in the Audio Control section using links that are accessible using any screen reader. The links in the Table of Clips section let the listener jump to the specified segment. Shortcut keys are provided, making the podcast optimal for screen reader users.
